Where you cannot play
Sweepstakes play reaches most of the United States. The exceptions are consistent enough to fit on one page.
Where casinos will not take you
| State | Status | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Washington | Out almost everywhere | State law treats online gaming, promotional play included, unusually strictly |
| Idaho | Out almost everywhere | Sweepstakes rules read as covering the two-currency model |
| Michigan | Out at several casinos | Regulated real-money market; casinos withdrew rather than test the overlap |
| Nevada | Out at several casinos | Gaming law and licensing exposure |
| Montana | Out at some casinos | Narrow definition of permitted promotions |
Forty-five states, broadly
Outside those five, sweepstakes play is generally open to adults who meet the casino’s age requirement, eighteen at most, twenty-one at some. Availability is set casino by casino rather than by any central register, so two casinos can take opposite views of the same state.
Prizes are taxable income. Casinos issue a 1099-MISC above the federal reporting threshold and state treatment varies. We are not tax advisers and this is not tax advice; a large payout is worth a conversation with someone who is.
If you travel, location is usually checked at login rather than at signup. Playing from an excluded state on a trip can freeze an account mid-payout.
